Structure. Habitats are represented by oligomesotrophic and mesotrophic bogs which are formed on more or less plane slopes or terraces of river valleys. Habitats occupy small areas with clearly defined boundaries of boggy vegetation distribution. Communities are usually two-layered, namely with predominance of the shrubby-sedge-herb cover in the first and sphagnum mosses in the second layer.
Ecological chacteristics. They form on peat and peat-gley soils. In case of hydrological regime change, peat accumulation processes are replaced by intense humification of organic layer, giving rise to humus-accumulative horizons with capacity up to 80 cm.
Threats. Change of hydrological regime (drainage), lowering the ground water level due to peat extraction or digging the reclamation canals. Such actions can lead to the irreversible changes of oligotrophic bogs.
Management. Limitation of the impact of any factors causing further degradation of bogs, namely peat extraction, collection of medicinal raw materials and berries in excessive amounts; barrage of reclamation canals in order to raise the ground water level.
