Structure. This habitat type is represented in floodplaines of river valleys. Habitats occupy a small area with predominance of
Cladium mariscus
and tall sedges or grasses.
Cladium mariscus
forms the first layer of high and dense sward, including
Phragmites australis ,
Cirsium rivulare Photo: А.Токарюк,
Cirsium palustre
. In less flooded areas
Schoenus ferrugineus
is subdominant, forming the second layer. Floral composition of the community is characterized by a number of rare species, in particular
Carex davalliana ,
Pinguicula vulgaris ,
Swertia perennis ,
Epipactis palustris
, etc.
Molinia caerulea
,
Potentilla erecta
,
Galium palustre
frequently occur.

Ecological characteristic. It forms on calcareous bogs in floodplains of small rivers and relict valleys. A peat layer is thin (1-2 m), marsh turf with pH 6-7. Sometimes these communities are developed on anthropogenically transformed areas, particularly on the denuded substrate due to peat extraction, construction of dikes or roads.

Threats. It is mostly affected by changes of the hydrological regime (drainage) and eutrophication. It may also vanish as a result of natural succession processes due to overgrowing and the formation of the tree layer.

Management. Maintenance of the appropriate ground water level, cutting of the grass every few years, cutting (felling, uprooting) of trees.
